Bord Bia’s Sustainable Beef and Lamb Assurance Scheme — SBLAS — is the farm-level standard behind most Irish beef and lamb. It certifies producers on quality, traceability, animal welfare and, distinctively, sustainability: every certified farm is carbon-footprinted as part of the audit.
What makes it notable
Most assurance schemes check safety and traceability. SBLAS adds a sustainability and carbon dimension at farm level, feeding into Bord Bia’s national Origin Green programme. For a country whose climate produces a very long grazing season, that combination — grass-based farming plus measured sustainability — is the heart of the Irish meat story.
How we use it on HonestMeat
For Irish producers, SBLAS (and Origin Green above it) is a recognised quality and sustainability signal, audited independently. It qualifies a producer for the directory. As always, it certifies the system rather than guaranteeing a 100% pasture diet — if that specific claim matters to you, look for Pasture for Life, which also certifies Irish producers.
